Welcome to the Archaeological Society of BC
Established in 1966, the Archaeological Society of British Columbia (ASBC) draws together both professionals and enthusiasts of Archaeology of British Columbia (BC).
Our Aims
- To encourage the identification and protection of archaeological sites and material in B.C.
- To provide lectures and publications for the spread of knowledge about archaeology.
Activities:
Everyone is invited to our Public Lectures, held at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month (September through June). These meetings are open to members and non-members alike, and usually feature an expert speaker with an illustrated talk on archaeology followed by an informal gathering.
The ASBC publishes an illustrated quarterly, The Midden, with articles and news on British Columbia’s archaeology. Members receive a subscription to The Midden, or you can subscribe.
Occasionally, we organize field trips where members can volunteer to:
- Assist on professionally sponsored digs. On-site training is given to members without experience.
- Participate in the laboratory; cleaning, analyzing and cataloguing materials from the field.
